What is brain stroke?
Sudden onset symptoms occur when blood flow to a part of the brain is suddenly blocked or when a blood vessel in the brain leaks. Without enough blood, the brain doesn’t get oxygen, and brain cells start to die. This can make it hard to move, talk, or think clearly. A stroke is a neuro-medical emergency and needs quick treatment.
BE-FAST when stroke strikes:
- Sudden weakness in the face, arm or leg
- Trouble speaking or not understanding what others say
- Feeling confused or having trouble thinking clearly
- Sudden blurring or loss of vision in one or both eyes
- Trouble walking or feeling dizzy
- A sudden, very bad headache for no clear reason
